a wEEk in my life…..
Hi all,
If only we’d stop trying to be happy we could have a pretty good time. — Edith Wharton
I really need to be more organised, A post per day, minimal, thats a promise…..
So first of all I hate this new editor of wordpress to compose a post, the previous one was fine I guess and where the hell did the preview window go ?? Neways I wud like to have a index for this post….
- Moved to Opera –
– Mind you no probs with firefox - R&D Showcase 200

Moved to Opera –
– Mind you no probs with firefox ::
So one fine day, when I was real frustoo1, I was like why the hell Firefox has to take so much mem. I have read some really nice articles on what Firefox does with all that chunks of System Mem but then those articles did not teach me to take it cool when firefox does so. I just thought for a while and next moment I was downloading the latest release of Opera.
Its beautiful
Its smooth2
It has an inbuilt Mail Client and Downloader
I knew all these facts when I was a FireFox user. So I would just like to add that its just my nature of loving the changes that made me move to Opera nuthing else. Now I dont have to use thunderbird in the first place … but but but I still have to use FireFox for posting, becos watever I blabered about the WordPress’ new editor, there is nothing like a new editor its just that Opera does not completely support the WordPress’ Rich Text Editor. I guess I will be using Firefox for my blogging purposes and Opera for the rest.
R&D Showcase 20056 ::
Now most of you will NOT wonder about that struck out number 5, that number is a symbol of reusability, the eternity of R&D the banner which was hanging outside the main building, well I guess it would take a lot of effort to make the current 6 into 7 next year but well we will find out some way to do it, we are IIITians…..neways thats not a big issue but yes every single person I was roaming around with on those 2 days they did observer that.
So now I have experienced 3 Research and Development Showcase at IIIT. In my second year, when the CVIT lab was positioned in a huge room which now serves as CDE ofcourse divided into parts, Shiben and Rama setup there projects. It was then when my fav. project was RoboSoccer displayed by Ravi Shankar although its still is there have been a lot of additions. Some of the nice projects then were, Augmented Reality (Shekhar 2K1), 3-D something (Piyush 2K1), RoboSoccer (RaviShankar 2K??), I dont remember the rest of them although there must be OCR and stuff but then that was the time when I was still about to decide on the stream I would be working in. Second R&D was really nice, I was on the verge of finishing a really good project (Video Streaming over WLAN with variable Bitrate from a PC to PDA) and takeup another good one (Terrain Information System). I learned a lot during this project as Nirnimesh was the person I was working with, he was supposed to display, Display Wall and thats why I was attached with PDA thing during this RnD and shiben ofcourse was showing his hardwork of around 8 months which was a beautiful virtual terrain system.
So the enthu this year was definately no way near wat we had last time. Most improvement was seen in the field of IRL (Robotics) those guys really had done a gr8 gr8 job, I did not find any projects from CDE which were associated with Databases apart from Makin’s which had something to do with Mining the graphs, rest of them were RoboRescue, RoboSoccer, MAS Virus something by Monga, Automatic Traffic monitoring and so on …. Nir’s Display wall grew from 2×2 to 3×4, it was fun setting up the system (right now the whole thing is still there and he is supposed to work there for next few days
). Terrain Information System is complete for the SASE ppl and Ranta’s mosaicing project is so kewl, we (CVIT) had a series of projects which were highly correlated, starting with Ranta’s project you can capture Aerial images and form a big image of a terrain (large area), feeding that to Kalyan aka Halley’s project of Image Rectification you can align the image as u wish, and that along with the height data can produce the Terrain Information System. I personally felt that we did not have anything coming from the CV area, anyways it was just ok event especially when compared to last year (for CVIT). I guess all the labs should look upto Robotics stream and now with the ECE ppl producing stuff it can be highly integrated with the Robotics ppl. Less number of Comp. representatives and less students.
Another nice weekend, although a bit senti ::
So with all the R&D thing and Midsems earlier we did not go out for a long time around 15 days, so the Saturday nite was dedicated to adventure …. yeah … after getting down just before Cyber Pearls, we started walking down town in search of a food place named Nihal Foods. After a decent amount of waste of time walking on undiverted roads in dark, I thought of calling Tarun Sir and using him as a GPS, finally after a bit of effort with the cell and awesome Interpersonal skills we reached the place, and guess wat, Entrepreneur’s rock, we found two places side by side named, Nihal and Gur Nihal. :O so I rushed back to my GPS and he got us into the right place. We were not expecting the kinda crowd which was there but neways food rocked, cheap (wat cheap, correct price) and desi. Me, Ayan, Shalu and pandey walked back in the dim light of houses which was lighting the road in front and found the correct path to the real world. After that me and Ayan had loads of shopping to do and thus ended up in room at 11:00 and had a LOL time for next 3 hours ….. 2 rounds of tea/milk after that and ofcourse not to forget Me and Ayan ran a round each of the playground at 1:00 in nite just to stay fit after such a heavy dinner
. Ptee as usual was out, no actually we were out, ok watever he returned from his outing at arnd 1:30 and I dont remember much of talking to him …. nice time we had, hmm abt the senti part I m not sure if I want to write abt it … so lets just drop it as this post is getting too long……
The breeze in IIIT said smthing…::
It rained, when I was in the process of writing this post, it was awesome awesome weather over the weekend and today, we had this kewl breeze going around in IIIT, It was just beautiful to sit there near the hut (coffee shop) last nite and talking about anything which struck our brains (me, pT, Babb, Ponde). It felt really chilled, atleast for that one hour we forgot every damn problem in our lives (although we dont have any or many I dont know, but then we were Chinta rahit). The problem is that Sunday’s have something particular about them, they produce this Bullshit feeling inside US, atleast me and pandey are of one view when it comes to this (feeling sad kinda on a sunday evening) although we dont have any big tensions but then we dont feel the same as we do on other days of the week, already I have talked a lot about these sundays, infact the first post of my blog was about a boring sunday….but watever we have solutions now
no no …. not that …..

No Internship – Virtual Earth Stuff::
So my plans for the summer are frozen. A trip to Banglore around 27th-30th of May, another one to Chandigarh some time for a week (Project work), spending some time at home and definitely staying here for rest of the summer to do the planned work. I had this choice of going to GE for the internship but then finally after 2 years of denial from PJN sir for internships finally this year it was my call and I actually realised that I can be more productive here working on something which I like to do, rather than being a part of something they are working on and neways this new project seems important to Prof. PJN and to me too, so its gonna be better here. Shiben has got an internship at MSR Banglore, India. He would be staying there for around 12 weeks and will be back in July. Then on we got to find seperate problems for our MS and start working on them.
[1] I dont remember the reason, imagine how long its been I have blogged
[2] For last 1 year I have been hearing that from Ranta and infact Tarun Sir told me the same thing when he saw Opera on my system, now I really know wats smooth

Oye!! when u come over to Chandigarh for project, u’re staying at my home with me.. I’ll probably be there then.. my place is just a 45 min run from Chandigarh and mind it, take it as an order
And that’s an excellent decision of working on Virtual Earth project over interning at GE.. gud luck
Boo Hoo

Already this poor soul is frustu becoz he is workin on a “0% Innovation” kinda project.
Now you write abt my project on your blog and ppl start asking me “Hey halley !! you said your project s**ked ,but,SKP wrote in his blog abt ur project .. and they proceed to blame me that i am a hypocrite
( “.
Suggest some solution plzz
.Congrats for that Virtual Earth thingie
.
You moved to Opera.. yay!
@AK-84 :: Yeah sure its a deal. and thnks
@Halley :: Oh damn
(dont mind the smiley ) ! sry abt that, actually the best thing to do when u are stuck in a project which is so so, is to read something which fascinates u (something tech not philo) and produce something in your spare time…so that when you are in queue for a project under your prof. u can pour in ur ideas of wat u want to do … so keep hangin , everyone has some boring projects ….
@Rastogi :: Yeah baby ! but but but … gtalk in gmail and wordpress editor not working … !!! so … still using FireFox for that …. but MailClient rocks ….
Hi,
I have just gone through the write-up that you put on 6th of March. Just wanted to know your name and where you work.
Just curious, if you can reveal – fine, otherwise just leave it.
Only curious because you mentioned the name of Nihal foods in the write-up. this is the first time that “Nihal foods” has come on the net. I really felt very happy. I hope you entered Nihal foods and had the food there …!!!
